Engage

Tuesdays (Group Week) 7.30pm
Grace Centre

Aimage of question mark friend sees one of those news headlines that’s about religious tensions in the world, and says out loud, “Surely it’s arrogant for any one religion to say theirs is the only way”. What do you do?

(a) Nod in a non-committal 'keep your head down' way,
(b) Roll up your sleeves and immediately point out that he’s wrong to say such a thing and quote John 14:6 at him, or
(c) Ask an engaging question that leads to the heart of the issue, and spend the next hour learning what is behind his way of thinking and seeing if you get to earn the gospel a hearing?

What would you do? Would you know where to start?

These sorts of issues often prevent people from taking the claims of Jesus seriously, and for Christians they can be a source of anxiety that prevents us living out our faith in a radical, uncompromising way, for fear of attracting tough questions, or tough issues. Issues like 'suffering', 'hell' or 'hasn’t science disproved God?'. But if we knew where to start, it would not only help us live more confidently in the world, but it would help us engage more effectively with the world.

Engage aims to help us do just that. It's a discussion/bible study that deals with the sort of questions students stay up till 2am talking about, but is equally relevant to anyone who wants to take a serious look at some big issues. But I warn you – it’s not for the faint hearted!
