My name is Amy and I’m heading into my final year of a nursing degree. During my first year in Huddersfield I continued attending services at my church back home in Leeds. I felt quite isolated not knowing any other Christians in Huddersfield, and initially came to Elim on Sunday evenings towards the end of the year to try and form links there. After a few months of this I felt that it was time to leave my old church, and to attend more regularly at Elim, which was a big deal for me having been in my old church for over 20 years! To begin with, I found it hard to make connections because the church is so big, but once the Student Small Group and DNA re-started after the summer break I began to form friendships and feel more settled. It’s been brilliant to get to know the other students, and to be able to support each other in studying God’s word and praying together. We also get through a fairly substantial amount of tea and biscuits between us! I didn’t want to find myself in a “student bubble”, however, and so it has been really valuable to be able to get involved with other groups with people from the wider church family, like Small Group Central and the Stretch Bible studies. Fortunately, there tends to be plenty of tea and biscuits on offer at these too!
