God led me some time ago to this simple vision statement ‘Engaging with God, His People and His World'. It unites us not only in our direction and aim as a Church, but also is for every individual and ministry within the Church.
This coming season God has been directing us to establish two morning services, creating room for new people to find a place to engage with God and His people and His world. We will be making this a priority in the coming months. To do this we need what Paul described in Ephesians 4:3-5 as the ‘Unity of the Spirit’, one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God.
7th September 2014 sermon
Without this unity of the Spirit we can do nothing.
This unity requires us to be active participants, deliberately and intentionally being one. There are four things we will do and ask you to be:
Be a loving community
Let love for one another be evident to all in small groups and fellowships, being full of grace, love and care. A new group called DNA aims to fill a community gap in our Church for 19-30s.
We are changing the title of the end of month 10.30am services from ‘All Age’ to ‘United Services’ where we want to be united from across all backgrounds; age, ethnicity, education, etc. Deliberately plan to unite with others.
Be a Word and Spirit people
We start a new Sunday morning preaching series from Romans 8 called ‘Life in the Spirit'. Our desire is that this passage is a living reality where we are led by the Spirit from being dead to sin to alive in Christ.
Be disciple makers
We are going to have a yearly rhythm to discipleship called ‘Way, Truth, Life'. In the autumn we want people to find Jesus as the ‘Way’ through Christian discovery courses such as ‘Alpha'. In the spring we will emphasise finding the ‘Truth’ in discipleship courses such as ‘Freedom in Christ'. In the summer we will be emphasising finding ‘Life’ in Christ, through deeper discipleship courses such as ‘Emotionally Healthy Spirituality'.
Let’s be united in the Spirit to be and do all we are called to be and do in Christ.
