COGs 'Care, Opportunity and Growth' Groups
GEARS 'Groups for Encouraging/Advancement/Resourcing/Strengthenings'
There are new things happening with these groups all the time and there are many opportunities for you to be involved in a group that is contributing to the exciting development of ministry in our church. If you have not yet attended a COG or GEAR why not approach a COG or GEAR leader and see what you can find out. There should be something to interest you. If you are in doubt as to where you fit in you should be praying earnestly that the Lord will direct you. Expect Him to speak to you and to show you where He wants you to be.
Details of the time and place of the meeting of each COG are in the weekly notices. Please read them carefully. Many of the COGS are already developing activities beyond their fortnightly COG meetings. Some of these are open to people beyond those who attend the COG.
The COGS that are functioning at the moment are as follows:
Wavemakers Our objective is to utilise modern media and technologies in worship and in the teaching of the Church.
Walking in Truth GEAR Walking in Truth, the fellowship for ladies in the church is into its second year. The focus of the group is to learn to apply God's Word to everyday situations and emotions. The GEAR meets in Merton Street.
Waterloo Encouragement GEAR This GEAR is lead by Micky and Premi Aseervatham at their home. The group meets together for a time of Worship, Fellowship and Bible Study with regular attendance by people of all age groups. The time spent together is essentially 'interactive' in nature with an emphasis on prayer and is focused on encouraging each other with spiritual inspiration. Have recently completed a study on Ephesians and are currently working together through specific chapters of the book of Proverbs.
World Missions COG This is lead by Kath Hannam and Paula Patterson. Meetings are held on alternative Thursdays in various homes. In the past the COG has organised two successful Tearfund evenings, and has held a Suffering Church meal which raised over £300 for three charities supporting persecuted Christians.
Birchencliffe Encouragement GEAR This GEAR has completed Bible Studies on the book of James, the subject of prayer and is currently looking at Romans. Although they work from a study book the format is informal with plenty of opportunity for discussion. There is also a time for prayer and a chance to chat over coffee or tea.
Corporate Image/Publicity The Publicity COG meets to produce material to advertise various events. They also produced the 6 foot banner used in the Honley Church. The COG meets in the home of Mark Dunn.
Holme Valley GEAR Our personal aims are to help each other by encouragement and reference to Scripture in growing closer to God and knowing Jesus better. We have been moved with a specific burden for the persecuted church and have committed ourselves to pray much for those who are suffering in many countries because of their stand for the Christian Faith.
Masala Group The Masala Group is a Bible study in English and Punjabi/Urdu, and worship is in Punjabi/Urdu. It usually starts with refreshments at 8.00pm and the study/worship at 9.00-10.30pm. The group has just completed the armour of God from Ephesians chapter 6.
