|
The name for the 611 Centre comes from Isaiah 61:1 and reflects our mission to bring help to the poor and to the needy.
611 Ministry commenced on a small scale in the year 2000 through contact with street girls and others with life-controlling problems. The purchase of a double-decker bus in 2001 gave increased opportunity to reach those with life controlling problems and the acquisition of the 611 Centre in January 2005 provided a base for a permanent work among drug addicts, alcoholics, homeless people and street working girls. Since then the number of ministries and organisations based at the 611 Centre have increased significantly to include schools work, pregnancy support, drop-ins, counselling, advice, training, work with asylum seekers/refugees and English and bible teaching. |

Since 1985 the Elim Pentecostal Church in Huddersfield has included in its mission statement the phrase 'to demonstrate Christian love and care by meeting the social needs of the local community and beyond'. The church has been increasingly involved in the local community and the 611 Centre is part of the church's role in the community.
